This course is split according to age group 16-18 (18 or under on 31st August 2026) and 19+ (19 or above on 31st August 2026). Please make sure you are applying for the right course. If a mistake is made, we will reallocate you on enrolment

This one-year course prepares students for the GCSE examination at Foundation Level, grades 1 to 5. This is the standard GCSE Maths, which many jobs require at grade 4.

This is a hybrid course, and students have to attend college as part of this course. The course still requires a face-to-face exam, and students need to be familiar with the environment in which this exam is taken.

Students will be expected to attend a face-to-face induction at the college to set up their online learning device and to meet their tutor. This also gives the first opportunity to have travelled to and visited the college.
Students will also be required to attend further face to face sessions in College including the mock exams.

These sessions are part of the scheduled lesson times and students must attend all of these sessions to remain on the course. Dates are given during induction.

If students are unable to do this then this is not the right course for them at this time.

We also have smaller classes that meet on a Wednesday morning face to face in an offsite classroom for students building confidence and skills in preparation for their GCSE that might be more suitable for some students.

Assessment for the GCSE is by 3 examinations in May/June.

The course covers topics such as number work, algebra, shape, space and measure, and data handling. At the beginning of the course, you will need a scientific calculator and you will be required to buy the recommended course materials. Internet access is required to complete homework tasks. Mock assessment tests will be given during the year to assess your progress.

The course will be funded if you have not achieved a C/4 in GCSE Maths prior to starting. You will be required to sign a declaration if you have not passed this previously.

The course requires 100% attendance if you miss 3 lessons you will be withdrawn from the course. The course requires weekly homework to be completed.

This course is also available as a face to face course.
