This exciting and intensive one-year, full time course prepares you for studying Art and Design at Higher Education or helps you to progress into employment in the creative industries after your A Levels. During the course you will develop your research and visual recording skills into a broad range of media and materials followed by choosing your own area to specialise in.

Course Details

You will develop understanding of a range of disciplines such as Fine Art, Fashion, Textiles, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Experimental Film and Contextual Studies. We visit and work with galleries, create group installations, enjoy learning new skills and hone existing skills in a dedicated studio as you personalise the course to your specialism. We develop your portfolio in your chosen specialist pathway in preparation for university application or employment and with our support, every student has been accepted onto their first choice of degree.

Stage 1: Exploration

Through a structured diagnostic programme, you will identify and extend your existing skills, strengths and interests with a variety of practical workshops. You will also develop both practical and critical thinking abilities, helping you to make an informed choice for your specialist study.

Stage 2: Development and Progression

You choose to specialise in one pathway from Fine Art, Fashion/Textiles, Graphic Design, Photography, Media/ Film or 3D. You are supported in your application to the university course or employment of your choice and to build your portfolio.

Stage 3: Proposal and Realisation

You bring together your skills, knowledge and understanding in art and design/ media to carry out a major project following a brief you write in your chosen specialist area concluding with an exhibition.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The first two months are a variety of tutor led workshops which feed into you choosing your specialist area and personalising the course for its remainder. There will be regular feedback against the criteria from tutors as well as group critiques with your final grade decided through your exhibition.

Entry requirements

Any Level 3 qualification in one or more visual subject: art, photography, design or media. This might be A Level or a Diploma/ BTEC course and you may have studied your visual subject along with other subjects.

You will be required to attend an interview for this course along with a portfolio (digital or physical.)

Equipment required

There will be a course fee to cover your workshops, studio resources and presentation materials. After this, you will be advised to buy your own sketchbooks and specialist materials towards your final major project.
