If you haven’t managed to achieve your grade C/4, you can re-sit your English Language GCSE. This one-year course prepares students for the GCSE examination that will take place in June. GCSE English is a crucial qualification needed for a very wide range of jobs and more advanced courses.
This course is split according to age group 16-18 (18 or under on 31st August 2025) and 19+ (19 or above on 31st August 2025). Please make sure you are applying for the right course. If a mistake is made, we will reallocate you on enrolment.
This is a hybrid course, and students have to attend college as part of this course. The course still requires a face-to-face exam, and students need to be familiar with the environment in which this exam is taken.
Students will be expected to attend a face-to-face induction at the college to set up their online learning device and to meet their tutor. This also gives the first opportunity to have travelled to and visited the college.
Students will also be required to attend further face to face sessions in College including the mock exams.
These sessions are part of the scheduled lesson times and students must attend all of these sessions to remain on the course. Dates are given during induction.
If students are unable to do this then this is not the right course for them at this time.
We also have smaller classes that meet on a Thursday morning face to face in an offsite classroom for students building confidence and skills in preparation for their GCSE that might be more suitable for some students.
You will study a wide range of texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, including literature and literacy non-fiction as well as other writing such as reviews and journalism.
Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing
Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives
Non-examination Assessment: Spoken Language
The course will be funded if you have not achieved a C/4 in GCSE English prior to starting. You will be required to sign a declaration if you have not passed this previously.
This course is also available as a face to face course.
The course requires 100% attendance if you miss 3 lessons you will be withdrawn from the course. This course requires homework to be completed each week.
