The course covers all aspects of healthcare and has a strong emphasis on applying theory directly to practice in relation to working in healthcare settings. It also emphasises ‘reflective practice' so that you develop a professional approach to your development. Units will include care planning, supporting independent living, health equalities and an action research project.
Students can either be working in a healthcare setting or will need to undertake work placement which can be arranged by the College. Work placements will need to be 450 hours over the two year which equates to one to two days per week.
How will I be assessed?
A range of assessment methods are used including projects, investigations, essays, professional reflections, a portfolio of professional practice, tutor and supervisor/manager observations in the
work/placement setting. There are no external examinations for this course.
What could I do next?
There are many progression routes for example; The Level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by Higher Education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant health and social care-related courses, for example: BA/BSc (Hons) in Management Studies (Health and Social Care) or Health Studies. Progression into management is also possible within the workplace.
