The course covers all aspects of children's care and development and has a strong emphasis on applying theory directly to practice in relation to working with children in classrooms and early year's settings. It also emphasises ‘reflective practice' so that you develop a professional approach to your development.

How will I be assessed?
A range of assessment methods are used including projects, investigations, essays, professional reflections, a portfolio of professional practice, tutor and supervisor/manager observations in the work setting and across a range of settings and ages from 0- 8 years. There are no external examinations on the course.
Students have to undertake 800 hours of work placement across a range of age groups as specified by the awarding body. This is arranged around working hours for those in employment or as work placements.
What could I do next?
There are many progression routes for example; previous graduates have completed a top up year at university achieving a full BA Hons and some students have gone on to study further post graduate courses such as PGCE in primary teaching and Play therapy. Other students have gone on to manage nurseries.
