Learn how to get creative with everyday throw-away items such as plastic bags, plastic milk bottles, wire, paper, card, cotton buds, packaging (from fruit wrapping etc.), anything really that you find in your home, and turn it into something beautiful to hang on your wall, an art installation, a lampshade or a small chandelier! Look at pattern making from different cultures and have a go at interpreting these ideas into your creations.
What will I learn
How to see the creative potential in ordinary everyday objects. How to make interesting patterns and shapes when you place different materials together. How to create designs with collage to work out what you would like to make. How to weave colourful materials around wire netting or chicken wire, or do simple tufting techniques, used in rug making, or simply hang plastic vessels together with fishing wire.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements; you just need enthusiasm and an interest in experimenting with different materials and making things. You will need to be able to find and collect materials from around your home, in charity stores or things that have been thrown away by other people!
Is this the right course for me?
This course is suitable for anyone with no or little experience of making things, who wants to start learning new skills, or for those who already enjoy making things and want to improve their skills. Just an interest in looking at art and the enthusiasm to experiment freely and try something new, is all that is required!
