First session

There are four main elements to the Wine and Appreciation course.

1. Introduction to the structured approach to wine tasting so as to enable students to taste wines in an objective manner.

2 Introduction to the main production processes of wine making

3. Learn how both "Natural" and "Man Made" factors affect the quality and style of the wines produced globally.

4. Looking at the main noble grape varieties encompassing the styles of wine produced by them together with how and where they are made.

There will also be an interactive session on food and wine pairing, together with a short session on wine storage and serving temperatures.

Throughout the course there will be tasting of approximately 35 wines. The cost of the wine is included in the course fee.

Further sessions will include a summary of the main details of the first course then exploring the main wine styles in more detail including covering grapes and areas not covered in the first session.

Teacher Bio:
Edward Bacon is a Certified Educator and Internal Assessor for the WSET (Wines and Spirits Education Trust). He helped set up the Essential Wine School and taught many students from the hospitality and wine trade as well as those from the general public. He was also instrumental in the training of many of the touring guides at Chapel Down Winery in Kent. He is passionate about the subject and nothing gives him more joy than sharing his passion to other members of the public."
